SMASH 2014 and Indie Brand Magic Cats Street!

Posted by Unknown at 17:36 2 comments
SMASH this year was a lot of fun. I went with two of my friends, and we spent the day talking, buying stuff, and getting pictures with cosplayers. What was even more exciting, was a few days before the event I discovered on Facebook about a new Lolita brand called Magic Cats Street now situated in Sydney Australia that was going to be there. Of course I had to check it out, and even managed to drag my friends to go see it as soon as we got there. The brand was super cute, and everything was reasonably priced and well made. I bought a JSK and a matching bolero, and I love them so much. I'll post the pictures  from the brand down below my SMASH pictures, and I'll take pictures of me wearing my garments when I get dressed up next time.

It was also a pleasant surprise to run into two Lolita's from the Sydney Lolita Fashion community. I had them both of Facebook, and I think I met one of them at the Misako Tea Party (my memory escapes me). I had no idea who they were at first, and was surprised when I went to ask two well dressed girls for a photo and one of them recognised me and even knew my name. Not long after that my friends and I departed for home, and the only seats we found available on the train were next to the same girls. They were really nice and allowed us to sit with them, and we all had pleasant conversation between us. I'm hoping I can make it up to another meet sometime, as I'd like to see these girls again.

It was an amazing, but super tiring day. Due to SMASH being in a new venue this year, it took so much longer to get there. It took three trains to get there initially, and four on the way home. I had to get up at 5:30 in the morning and didn't come home until around 7:30. Although it was super tiring, I would definitely do it again. I also hope they keep holding it at this venue, as even though it's further away I believe I like it a lot better. It's a lot more spacious, and because of that you aren't packed against a lot of people.

Supanova Sydney, 2014

Posted by Unknown at 17:37 0 comments
About two weeks ago I went to Supanova Pop Culture Expo. I have been going to Supanova for quite some years now, and it gets better every year (the crowd seems to increase as well ^^').

I went with a few friends, and I took lots of pictures. It was an absolute blast talking to different Cosplayers and Lolita's, and seeing so many different things. I ended up spending too much without realising it, but I'm glad I did as I love everything that I bought.

The highlight of the day would be the RWBY Maid Cafe hosted by Hanabee. It was my first time in any type of Maid Cafe, and I found it to be a lot of fun. Being a huge fan of the show added to the experience. The food wasn't very filling, but it tasted amazing. I would upload the group picture from the cafe, but I don't have all my friends permission to upload it.

I was really happy with how my coordinate turned out as well. Funny enough I ran into someone with the same dress in the exact same colour way. She was a really sweet girl, and complimented me on how I coordinated my dress. I wish I got a photo with her now, and more of a chance to talk with her. I ran into her again on my way towards catching the train home, and managed to ask how her day went just before leaving.

I spotted a No Face in the crowd

I found this amazing Princess Serenity and had to ask for a photo

The Difference Between Cosplay Lolita and Lolita Fashion

Posted by Unknown at 20:10 0 comments

You've all heard it before, but whether or not you know what it is is the big question...

Cosplay Lolita! What is it?

Well from my understanding and from my own opinion, there are two categories of Cosplay Lolita. One for the Lolita which is not quite right in some ways and convention only appropriate, and someone cosplaying a Lolita character from an anime.

As everyone who is a Lolita should know already, Lolita Fashion is not a cosplay. So why is there such a thing called Cosplay Lolita? The point of this article is to point out the major differences between a Cosplay Lolita and  a partaker of the Fashion, and to bridge the understanding of why Lolita Fashion is not Cosplay and in fact a fashion.

Not Quite Right

Animal ears- Sometimes it can look alright....many other times not so much. When combining animal ears into Lolita Fashion there are ways to make it work, and it definitely can. Although this is extremely hard and should only be a challenge for the experienced Lolita. The ways in which they don't work is what makes it stand out. When combining animal ears you can easily make it work by having a bunny hoodie, or matching it up somehow with the colour scheme or print on you dress, not just randomly shoving a pair of cat ears on your head. Wearing a random pair of cat ears and a tail is all right for conventions and a bit of fun, but this then makes your outfit fall under the category of Cosplay Lolita, and not Lolita Fashion.

An extremely cute outfit. There is nothing wrong with how she is dressed,
but this is convention appropriate only. What she is wearing is not Lolita
Fashion but  Cosplay Lolita, this is because of the cat ears and the lack
of a blouse and many other contributing factors.

Fabulous Lolita Theme's Thursday: Sailor Moon

Posted by Unknown at 03:00 3 comments
Sailor Moon was a big part of my childhood, I grew up on the English dub and loved it for many years. Once I was older I started watching it again, and re-watched the entire series in Japanese. It was what introduced me to anime originally, and because of that Japanese culture. If it weren't for Sailor Moon I might not of liked anime, might not of become a fan of Japanese culture, and I might not have become a Lolita. Finding Sailor Moon Lolita coordination's is just like really special to me, and now I feel like trying one for myself :)

This is probably my favourite :)

How I Got Interested in Lolita Fashion

Posted by Unknown at 09:44 4 comments
Well I'm new to blogging as a whole, and new to the Lolita Blog Carnival. So here is my first Lolita Blog Carnival post, I hope it's all right :)

How I got interested in Lolita Fashion?

How I got into the fashion originally is a little bit ambiguous, as I didn't just 'discover' Lolita and then suddenly get into it. To explain exactly how I got interested in the fashion, I will have to go back into the history of how I first got into anime.

Yeah I know, I know...being a Lolita who is into anime is a common stereotype, which may or may not always be true. Many Lolita's are into anime I believe, because that is how they got introduced into Japanese culture and fashion. Not all Lolita's are into anime, but certainly many are. And that is exactly how I got introduced into the fashion.

Fabulous Lolita Themes Thursday: Pokémon

Posted by Unknown at 14:53 0 comments
Well I'm going to try this thing...

Every Thursday (well hopefully every Thursday ^^') I shall have a theme post. In this theme post I will post pictures of what I believe to be interesting Lolita Coordinations, based on a common theme. Some of these posts may feature some rather 'experimental' stuff, and some outfits that may not be quite to everyone's taste, and may even veer off some of the standard Lolita 'rules'. This is more for a little fun, not to be taken too seriously, and to show how some people can get creative with their much loved Lolita fashion. So if you don't agree that something I post is considered 'true' Lolita, well chillax and take a step back, this is just a little bit of fun. After all this did originally start out as an experimental street fashion. We should all experiment with fashion and have fun with it, Lolita is no exception.

The first theme for today is Pokémon. I am not really a fan of Pokémon myself, but I did watch it as a kid and I have a great respect for its fandom (plus Pikachu is super adorable).
